I have a peony that got rather large but did not bloom, did not even make buds? It is the shrub type, not the tree or hybrid one. Just some old fashioned kind. I think a red color. It is planted barely under the soil and looks happy, but no blooms. Someone gave it to me about 3 yrs ago. It is in full sun. Any ideas?

My idea would be to try feeding it for another year?
With something which included Calcium?

I had several that didn't form buds this year, Frillylily. Since they've all bloomed well before I'm chalking it up to a very dry late summer/fall and early spring cold at a bad time. I don't plan to do anything different unless the same thing happens next year.

Ok thanks, we did have a dry winter and an early spring. my other peonies did all bloom, maybe 10 others, but this one didn't even make buds, I thought was wierd. It has never bloomed for me, even once. Not even sure it has ever had a bud. Confused

I was going to say the same thing. Several of my peonies did not do well, and a couple of well established ones did nothing at all.

A fertilizer like BulbTone or FlowerTone, something high in potash, might be a good addition after they've stopped growing for the year, just in case.
