I would guess Bull Nettle, but the leaves don't look hairy enough.

Reminds me of this, or other nefarious species of same genus. Stinging Nettle (Cnidoscolus stimulosus)

C. stimulosus is my guess too, a North Carolina native. http://www.ncwildflower.org/pl...

Ditto on cnidosculous stimulosa.

I have a garden full of it...

It's real pretty, the butterflies love it... But be careful with bare feet, or when weeding without gloves...

If you do brush against this plant with bare skin.... DON'T scratch.

It's called 7 minute itch for a reason.

But... If you forego scratching, it stops itching in a reasonable amount of time....

Whatever you do...do not touch it, ever!!!
It feels like a thousand wasp stings. Pretty, but not something to mess around with. I dig them up with a shovel and dump them directly into the trash container.

Aw come on...
At my house it feels like a fire ant bite.

Sometimes....
When a fire ant latches on, I think I've gotten into the cnidosculous....

When the fire ant continues chewing and stinging... Then.... I remove the ant....

Seriously....
No big deal in my experience.

You might be thinking about Mala Mujer...

Cnidosculous angustidens.....

As we speak I happen to have 13 ant stings/bites on my left ankle...touching this plant is worse. Just my opinion.
Your mileage may differ. Whistling Thumbs up
