Only once in the life of a semp... Rolling on the floor laughing ...,sorry...

It happens more often then you may think. Sometimes the rosette produces offsets the same year it's going to flower. In most cases these offsets will flower, too, even if detached and grown separately. Sometimes stressed plants will flower no matter what their age is and you may loose a lot of plants of different ages.

Hi Lisa, just enjoy the one in its lifetime bloom show, and then try to get seeds later. But that plant will eventually wilt, just its nature. Who knows, it may also try to make offsets too before it eventually goes.

In my area, when I first got my semps, the sudden exposure to our intense heat here, promptly triggered bolting. I did not try to do anymore surgery or attempts to cut the blooms, I just let it take its course. Helped me understand more the growth cycle of this plant.

Yep, I thought I was saving some chicks, they all have turned to bloom stalks, bummer.
Yours is quite pretty at least.

These are two tiny arachnoideums that currently do the same - offspring are most probably from last year. I found this happen more often in arachnoideum and tufted varieties with arachnoideum genes than in other types.

Today I crossed it with the dark tectorum (?) on its left - curious to see what the (tufted) offspring will look like...

Thanks for the info. I knew that a blooming semp dies, I just never saw every offset blooming too. Looks like a medusa. Sticking tongue out

Mine usually bloom one at a time 1st time I saw a multibloom.
It is nice to see except for the demise of the plant ,but at least its ending with a big finale .
Plants are like that little ray of sunshine on a rainy day.

Thanks for posting about this. Who knew these plants were full of so many surprises day to day, season to season and year to year! I agree with Herrwood, quite an elegant finale. Crossing Fingers! you get a chick or two to carry on.

Lisa that is pretty spectacular. And what lovely pink blooms. Does it have a name?
I remember when that happened to my 'Goldmarie' and 'Persephone'. At least I had extra young rosettes of 'Goldmarie'. Not so lucky with 'Persephone'. My one and only rosette bloomed and all her attached offsets went the same way. I am very thankful that earlier in the spring I had detached several offsets and sent them home with Kevin and Chris. Those did not bloom, but all the sibling offsets did.

Maybe she can save the seed, like tarev suggested. She would have fun seeing what would come from them.
