First year plants are flourishing, full of flowers and spreading. So what's the problem? The plants are falling away from the center leaving a hole in the middle showing all the bottom of the ugly stems with brown curly leaves. The garden looks great from 10 ft away but get within 6 feet and the plant detracts from the beautiful flowers. Do I cut the plant down to soil level and hope it comes back this season? Chop off the back of the plant and hope it fills in? Put up with the plant because that's just the way it grows?
