I have an oak tree in my front yard with some kind of fungus growing out of the base of the trunk. Is this bad, and what should I do about it?

It could be bad. Fungus only grow on decomposing plant material. If the fungus is growing out of the tree, its bad. If its growing on something at the base of the tree is okay.

Time to do some exploring.
