Hi!
Attached is, what we think, a dried fruit or seed container. The specimen was picked up by my father in the 70s most likely in Zimbabwe or Israel.
It measures 8x4 cm and today we opened it up and found the seeds inside.

We are not sure what it is, Cocao? Ceratonia siliqua?

Kind regards,

Good luck. Keep us posted. Here is some information about this tree, including seed germination. Scarifying means they remove an outer layer from some of the seed coat. You can do this with a nail file - just be careful not to go all the way through the seed coat to the kernal. You only want to damage the outer coating to make the seed more permiable to moisture.

Thank you Daisyl!
I will give it a try and perhaps try put half of the seeds in water before planting.

I have been thinking, could the tree actually be Afzelia Quanzensis, since this has been shown to grow in Zimbabwe?

I guess the germination success rate will be low, but I give it a try.

Best wishes!

Could be. We only have a location and a seed pod. Identification with minimal information. Smiling
