Hi
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of plant this is as I have never seen one like this in my garden before.

Location? Berkshire, New York or England? or some other Berkshire?

Can you take close images so we can see the detail of the leaves, etc. Thank you.

Can you step back and take an image showing the entire plant. Thank You!

Also, did this plant just show up on its own in your garden bed?

Thanks,
Can I hazard a guess at this point and say maybe a Euonymus? These are sometimes delivered as gifts from the birds. Some Euonymus are known to be thugs and take over valuable garden space.

If you did not plant it, seems to me it would be okay to remove it or at the very least to relocate it to a different place in the garden.

There is one named Euonymus japonicus 'Green Spire' that looks similar to your plant.

Edited to add:
Also known as 'Green Rocket'; here is a link to a plant at a nursery in England.

Welcome!

It looks like it is close to flowering or already has inconspicuous flowers. Can you get a closer picture of the tops of the stems, Ray? Most Euonymus have opposite leaves, these appear to be alternate. I wonder if it is a Campanula of some kind but seeing the flowers, if I'm not imagining them, should help.
