It has slowly sunk in to me that every orange (or orange-ish) daylily that I have, or have had, has had some degree of mud in the color. Some oranges (like 'Sir Clyde') aren't too bad, just not really clear like some pinks or lavenders can be. Other oranges, you can clearly see the yellow underlying the surface pigment, and the blooms are just yuckily muddy overall. The closest to a clear orange daylily that I have seen have been some melon daylilies - but those are melon, pastel, not the deep rich orange that I crave.

So ARE there (can there be, is it possible) any CLEAR oranges out there? Confused

It's daylily season!

Orange is a favorite color for me. I do have a few that I consider clean-colored. Perhaps you might like one of these...

I guess color is in the eye of the beholder. As pretty as the pictures of daylilies are above, on my screen at least, they look gold not what I call orange. Orange is in fact a secondary color which is a combination of red and yellow, so it will have elements of both colors in it and, depending on the cultivar, an emphasis on one color (red/yellow) more then the other. It's just a matter of which color you favor more. Orange is one of my favorite colors, but I favor orange with a deeper red infusion of color then yellow. Here are a few of the ones I like (some of them are from a daylily show I attended)..........Maryl

An excellent clear orange is SPARKLING ORANGE. Available from O'Donal's Nursery in Gorham, Maine.

One of my pictures of Sparkling Orange is attached.

without seeing the yellow, can't say, but you might try Mary Todd, also. It is an oldie, that blooms like crazy and has bright color. Was cheap and sold by Wild's alot. I bought the two together some years ago. MT is a blooming machine!

Drat...I had never given much thought to a "clear orange" daylily. Now all I am seeing look red, yellow and now even pink sometimes, I thought of them as all being orange till I started reading this thread.
