I have two large Ilex Vomitorias that produce many many tiny green berries which drop off before turning red. I live in the Northeast (Staten Island) we've had these trees for 12 years & they are semi evergreen here. Why do the berries drop off before turning red.

Welcome!

It sounds as though both your plants are female. Do you have a male one nearby to provide pollen?

I have since researched my problem. The Vomitorias I have are female, hence the berries. There aren't any male vomitorias in the area where I live so the insects that pollinated where not from a strong pollinator and so the green berries fall off without having a chance to ripen. So disappointed as they are beautiful trees & we were hoping that the birds could enjoy their fruit, but without that male the birds are out of luck.

Is there any room to find and plant a male plant? Having the berries would be nice.

Male Vomitorias are hard to come by here in the Northeast as are any vomitoria male or female. On a visit to Texas I visited many garden centers & none were labeled male or female. They grow wild in Texas & so there is no need to label them, the females get pollinated with no problems. I took a chance and bought 2 small ones, took them to New York, but after 4 years no luck. I will not give up!
