I don't know if a thread has ever been started on this topic. I know we have some growers on the forum who register and sell their intros annually. But I am guessing that the majority of us are just growing seedlings for fun and out of curiosity.

If anyone here should grow a really nice and possibly outstanding seedling, would you consider registering and naming it?

Here are the AHS guidelines and instructions for registering a seedling:

Registration Form:

I started this thread for our forum members to post photos and information about any seedlings being considered for registration. I thought it might be helpful to request the opinions of others here who could perhaps share constructive criticism of any seedlings. Of course, that request would be up to each member who posts their seedling(s) to this thread.

With that said, I will be first to post a seedling that I am considering for my very first registration. Being a newbie at naming and registering, I would love any members to chime in on my "possible" intro. To actually register a seedling, I would like it to be a plant that is worthy of registering. I can handle honest and helpful criticism, so don't worry about hurting my feelings.

CCC01 is a seedling that I have been growing since 2014. It is a cross between Laughing Clown x Zanti Misfit. It's very first bloom was April 10, 2015. It has bloomed for 3 seasons now. And each season it has improved for me despite some pretty adverse conditions (intense heat, drought, and partial sandy soil).

Seedling CCC01 (Laughing Clown x Zanti Misfit) :

Pros: Shows resistance to rust, 6" - 7" blooms, 30-33" scapes, tall foliage, and 4-way branching with 21-33 bud count. The blooms tend to be spaced out on the scape, so rarely does a spent bloom lay wilted on top of a new bloom or bud, which makes it kind of self-cleaning. It is also fertile both ways. It is an evergreen here in central Florida. The first bloom was early May (possibly May 4 .... I lost the exact date when my computer crashed) this year and the last bloom was around May 22 or a couple days thereafter.

Cons: It is one of my early to mid-season bloomers which has yet to re-bloom for me. Slow to increase. (But that may be the growing conditions and not the true habit of this seedling.) Northern climate/zone survival and success unknown.

Here are some photos. I, personally, am very fond of this particular seedling because of it's bloom habits. Whether I registered it or not, it will remain in my garden.

That's a good looking daylily, Becky! Nice and airy looking in a clump. Good color : )

Other than a personal preference not to have curling petals, I don't have criticism...

Whatcha gonna name it?

Josieskid and Diana - Thank you.

This seedling is a UF form which often sports curling petals. It stands out in my garden because of the scape height and the color of the blooms. I haven't come up with an exact name, but was considering naming it after my daughter-in-law who is Chinese. Red petals and the yellow throat are popular Chinese colors. Red means Happiness, Success and Good Fortune and Yellow means Royalty. My DIL's name is Christine. Any name suggestions?

I like the plant and flower form.
We will introduce something this year. Ashton won the region 11 seedling award and Jr. Citation award for seedling so it will be registered.

Nice looking seedling Becky.
I will register some this fall and have all the stats by that time.
This is a four year old and the best dip pattern parent I have ever used.

Terry and Fred - Thank you.

What I really liked about my possible intro is the form. The scapes and blooms have a habit similar to most of Judy Davison's intros. I had inquired about hers, as I was considering some of them, but unfortunately, she felt that most of hers would not do well in my zone, so I am rather thrilled to have one of my seedlings display a similar form. Mine is not nearly as nice as her intros, but mine would make a good garden plant as well as a bridge plant for those gardeners that live in the deep south.

Terry - Do you have a photo of Ashton's possible intro? You've shared some gorgeous seedling bloom photos on the Seedling thread, so I can imagine you have more for intro consideration. Lovey dubby

Fred - Your patterned seedlings are beautiful! You've got some real winners on your intro list! It's always a pleasure to see what your seedlings look like and I imagine that several will make the cut now and down the road. Lovey dubby
