It's quilling. Has anyone seen this before and why is it happening?

Do not know why, but I like it. Did it flower normal before this? Or the first time it has flowered for you.

This is actually one side of a big clump. I've tried to tie them all together and would like to see if I can divide them from the rest of the plant in case it's a sport. I'm wondering also if it might be a seedling that started at the edge of the original clump and sort of merged with it. Then again, might it be environmental? I hope I can divide it out without harming it.
