Ants are usually an indication that you have another insect problem, such as aphids, mealybugs or scale. The ants 'farm' the the suckybugs and harvest their 'honeydew' for food.

I don't know if Neem oil will kill ants.

I live in city. Lot size it Something like 50 x 150 feet. I buy a 5 lb bag of cornmeal/grits. 3 or 4 bucks. Sprinkle it lightly, all over ground, beds, grass, walkways, driveway, gutter, even over fences.
Usually ! No ants, till next year.
If ant mound does appear, between time. You need to broadcast a big area around hole, say, 20 foot circle.
I don't think i use a whole 5 lb bag. But, be safe. Use that much. ?😕??? Think of it like, putting, lots of pepper on your mashed potatoes.

Throwing a couple handfulls on hole, dosent work, for some reason Shrug!
Ants take it to colony, colony eats it, can't digest it, and croke out. Die.

It's not a overnite thing. May take a week or more.
Rain may wash cornmeal away. Shrug!
