I bought a broccoli start a month ago. It had an egg sized head developing. I've never grown broccoli before so I don't know what to expect. Its been less tham a month since planting. Is it supposed to look like this??

Welcome!

Sadly, your broccoli has progressed beyond the eating stage and moved on to the blooming stage.

Nope. They need to mature in cool weather.
Heat, makes them, bolt !
Thats ! Go to flower, and make seeds.
BUTT ! WAIT !!! 😁
Leafs and buds, still taste like broccoli. Cut him off ! Chop him up ! And use him in soup or stew.
Good for you too !!! Thumbs up

It is going to flower. Too late for eating, you want to harvest the heads when they are tight as you see in the stores. Leave it now and the bees will simply love visiting the broccoli flowers.

Those tiny florets are edible as are the stems.
Cut them all off and use what you can.

Two years ago I had broccoli bolt almost from the get go but I kept cutting and using what I could so later in the year I still got a few small but more normal florets.
