My son's weeping cherry is turning brown and losing it's leaves. No sign of bugs that he can see, leaves are not turning yellowing first, just a few small holes then going brown. It's an established tree a few years old.
Lots of rain and a cool spring in our zone 6 PA area.
Any ideas?

Water and nutrient deficiency !!!
Drip line, and a few feet, beond ! Is where, feeder roots are. Thats where you want a basin, around tree.
Get grass out, make basin, and give, just a little fertilizer, for now.

Your son's cherry tree is probably suffering from a fungal disease from the wet cool spring. The early symptoms are branch dieback. The leaves die but do not drop off the branches. Look at the trunk and branches carefully - are there any spots on the bark that are oozing or sticky?

On top of doing what i mentioned earlier.
It could be fire blight, most common with cherries and pears. No cure for it, only combat it. Cut affected branches, all the way back. Sterilize, pruning shears, before and after each cut.
