In case you don't watch the photography forum (which you really should!),
I occasionally post requests for photos that we are looking for. These photos are used to update outdated or missing photos in NGA's Library series of articles which are read by countless each year.

All accepted photos are rewarded with generous acorns, so this is a great way to build up a nice stash!

Here's the current bounty:

We are looking for pictures of garden pests (insects).
Pictures of the damage caused by the pests are also requested.

All photos must be clear, in focus, and obviously taken in the garden/on the plant.

You must be the original photographer.

Edited to add: please send the photo via treemail to me.

50 acorns will be awarded to each accepted photo.
Photos will be used in our Pest Library, which is badly in need of updated pictures.

Thanks- I look forward to seeing what you all come up with!

I did a blog post of my pests awhile back, not sure if any of these will work.

Trish, do we have to be able to identify the pest. I've got pics of a beetle munching on a daylily but I can't identify it. I even asked my bug-loving friend and she can't either. I looked on websites but nothing matches.

Elena, post a pic of your bug in the Insects forum to get an ID for it.

@Trish -- ok. haven't been paying attention to this. Somewhere in some forum(s) I have posted a picture of a katydid and the damage that the katydid did.

Do you want me to treemail those 2 pictures to you even if I've previously posted them somewhere?

Actually, we did a bit of a reversal with this request-
We decided that at some point, the entire Bug Area needs to be revamped. I did switch out a few of the photos (and awarded those acorns), but at some point everyone will be able to submit their own photos.

This isn't a high priority project, so I don't have a completion date, but for now, hang onto your photos. I tip my hat to you.
