I have a big broccoli growing, and I was wondering, How do I tell if its ripe?

Hi. Jared 😁
If its green variety. Its ready. If diferent color variety. Wait till it turns right color.
If you see a bud starting to open. Chop er off.
Save leaves. Use in stew or soup. Tastes just like broccoli. Yep. Yep.

What kind did you plant? That is weird looking broccoli!

Don't know what variety that is but it is ready to harvest. After you cut the main head, small heads will grow on the sides. You can have several more meals from the same plant.

Its past ready. I hope you have cut it and eaten it already.

When those little bumps start to turn from green to rust means the flowers are wanting to open. And you don't want that.

Everything in this stir fry came from my garden except the carrots and meat. It was the best.

If you see any hint of tiny yellow flowers on your broccoli, it is just past ripe for picking. One picking hint is that the head feels "firm" and large.

I realize that seems "pick it a day before it is too late" but that is about it.

Your seed package should say the expected size of the head. Go by that.
