I received a pine tree as a gift last year and it has been in a pot indoors ever since then. Recently I have noticed that some of the needles at the base are turning brown and some random needles are also turning brown from the tips inward. It sits in front of a window that gets 5 hours of afternoon sun 1pm-6pm. I believe the tree is only 1 year old. Is this natural as the tree grows or is something more serious happening? I believe it's a white spruce.

Welcome!

Is there any way you can plant it outside? It won't be too happy in a house long-term. It also looks as if the pot is too big for it. You've actually done better than someone I know who tried to keep a white spruce alive on a windowsill - it died eventually, took less than a year.
