There's not a seedling here I wouldn't be happy to grow.
Love that pattern Shirlee, and those five others are awesome. I thing I said before I need Bowtie Affair
Way to go Teresa, it's not easy to get a purple ribbon, great seedling.
Like all that stuff Kid, the UFs are my favorites, really like #1 and the last one.

This is one of a few successful attempts to get an edge on a patterned seedling, and this one has a double edge,
though tiny, so I'm happy.

Love this one. Those designs on the midrib (if that's what it's called) remind me of "ink blots". You could name it Psychiatric Affair. But then...can you imagine how many times it would be misspelled?

It will be interesting to see if those "ink blots" continue. So pretty!

Love all the seedlings on here. Gorgeous!

One thing I have always wondered about is how colour genes work in daylilies. For example, if you mix a red with a yellow, do you get some red babies, some yellow, all orange or a different colour altogether?

Also are there any colours that you shouldn't cross with each other? What would you get if you mix dark purple with dark yellow? Would it just be eugh?

I've always wondered how it works!

Thank you, Larry,

Might have to start making my own daylilies if the import ban becomes long term!

Can I ask, where does white come into the chart, is it classed as yellow? Also how do you get eyes as none of the combinations look as if they produce eyes?

I think all these were "solid' colors the best I can figure. I did see the footnote that yellow can carry eyes without showing it. Which I took to mean that even using solid colors you will occasionally get eyes when using yellows.
I think to get eyes, patterns, edges, etc. there is a lot more involved than is shown in this simple chart.

Sue, I think Ink Blots would be a nice name too. Thanks so much for
the lovely comments and the names. Haven't checked, but those names
are probably already taken. Great names usually are.
I will be watching this one to see if the pattern remains the same.

Gerry, beautiful eye and edge seedling you have there.

Scatterbrain, I have read that yellow and red are the two colors one
should not put together or you get mud. However, I have, and I did get some clear oranges, muddy oranges, no yellows, and muddy reds. But, with eyes and edges it gets a tad more complicated. There's the base colors to consider separate from the eye and edge colors when choosing what to pair with what.

I have paired two eye and edge blooms of burgundy and purple on a light base,
and got several solid yellows. There are usually a few surprises.

Near white paired with red gives me pink shades or occasionally lavender. It really matters as to what shade of red, whether it is a purplish red or a red red.

I have also seen yellow paired with purple sometimes result in lavender or
a lighter shade of purple. Some shades of yellow seem to clarify other colors, or it has at times for me. Sometimes two pinks paired give me white.

These are just a few examples to give you an idea. I like to think outside the
box sometimes just to see the results, so I have paired some together that
would probably be considered a mistake yet yielded a pleasant surprise.

And, of course, there are lots of uh ohs and uglies.

Here's my seedling Cosmic Struggle x Alone Again.
The 4th bloom finally looks better than the others. Still waiting to see if I can see both parents in there. It's a color I don't have in my garden so I will surely keep it until next year.

thank you all for the compliments! *Blush*
They are all from seeds bought on the LA, so it doesn't really feel like my accomplishment, but for a newbie it's exciting ! Hilarious!

Like I said, these seedlings are blooming for the first time and it is só much fun to hurry to my allotment every day after work, to see what's blooming Lovey dubby
I'm sure most of these seedlings would be tossed by everybody here on the forum, but on this moment I'm a proud Mama!

Here's some more Whistling Hilarious!
