Here is an angry bird, actually there are a pair of them yelling at my cat. All day long they keep taunting my cat. This is the challenge I face of having a cat and a yard full of birds. My cat is very good at hunting so they must beware.

Happy 4th everyone! Hope everyone has been having a safe and fun holiday weekend.

I was out in the yard earlier and heard young birds cheeping ... noticed two adult Red-bellied Woodpeckers flitting back and force from the ground to a palm tree and then to oak trees in my front yard. I spotted two juveniles in separate trees and the parents were back and forth feeding them. The female at one point appeared like she had been in a birdbath and spent time preening and drying her wings.

An adult Woodpecker and one juvenile were around earlier. The parent would fly to a feeder and grab a seed and the little one would scream to be fed. I managed to get one picture of baby being fed. Then I watched the adult flying back and forth, grabbing sunflower seeds from a feeder and flying to a palm tree or an oak tree where it stuffed the seed into the palm fiber and beneath the bark in the oak. The adults are teaching their young by sometimes feeding them a treat and other times waiting for them to go find the hidden, stored food. It's so much fun to watch birds!

I agree that watching them is fun. I've been watching papa oriole teaching the youngsters how to use the nectar feeder. Always good to see dad take interest in his offspring.

Thanks Joanna!

Baby birds sure keep their parents busy that's for sure; both mama and papa have been at it all day today with their young ones! More photos from a few minutes ago ... the one of baby being fed was in very poor light

There were two juvenile Red-bellied Woodpeckers visited a birdbath this morning. At one point, one of them wanted the birdbath all to himself so he chased his sibling off.

Then a Blue Jay landed on one side of the birdbath and the juvie woodpecker wasn't too happy but the jay won and the little WP took off to a nearby tree.

Wonderful photos, everyone! Lovey dubby
We've been away for a few days so I have lots of catch-up to do. But today I saw a rare blue-headed yellow wagtail here and got excited about it:

The pics are cropped - I was some distance from the bird and didn't have a suitable lens on the camera... D'Oh! But these are the first photos I have ever taken of this bird (long name for a little bird!)

The Hawk is back this evening and the Mockingbirds are not happy! The Hawk was perched on a power line with the birds dive bombing him and he flew to the same pine tree in a neighbors yard with the Mockingbirds in pursuit. Poor lighting again ...
