Are you looking for the citronella grass Cymbopogon citratus or for the 'mosquito plant'
Pelargonium citrosum?

There is another herb called cedronella which I can usually find locally and it has a similar fragrance and insect repelling properties. It's not quite hardy for me to overwinter, but would likely do fine in Florida. Balm of Gilead (Cedronella canariensis)

Here's an article specific to mosquitos. Not sure how effective these plants might be, but at least they'd be pretty and smell nice!

The plants work to repel mosquitoes when the plant is brushed or bruised to release the scent. If you have to do that every time the cat goes outside, maybe it would be easier to mix up a spray bottle with several essential oils such as citronella, rosemary, mint, etc. and just spray around where the cat hangs out.

@Bonehead Infected mosquitoes are responsible for heartworm disease in dogs. Untreated, it could kill a dog.

Who would've known. I don't have too many mosquitoes or ticks so don't really give it much thought. I do love the smell of citronella, cedronella, southernwood, and any other sharp lemony plants.

I can try to root some cuttings from my Pelargonium citrosum. I'll let you know if and when they develop enough roots to send in the mail.

Edited to add:
The mosquitoes can also spread a disease called Zika. It's good to take precautions and not get any bites.

There is no need for your cat to suffer.
There are several products to repel mosquitoes that are safe for cats. Check with your local veterinarian or pet store. Or you can buy something online like this:

Hi Dana

There are many plants that we can grow as "Mosquitoes repellent" but I'm not sure if work, I have planted all kind of M.R around chickens coop and still have this blood sucker.
The best result I see is with esential oils and tea bags hanging around.
Plants to repels Mosquitoes:

Lippia Alba
Basil
Mexican Tarragon
Mint
Catnip
Lavender
Marigold
Rosemary
One of the best is neem
Hope this help

I am quoting myself here so there will be a record of this. I offered to try to root some cuttings and told the OP that I would let her know when the plants developed enough roots to mail.

I failed in my attempt to root the cuttings. I then went to several nurseries and stores looking for more plants to try to root so I could send some to the OP. So far I have not found any decent looking plants; most of them look half dead so I did not buy them.
