Looks like a Polyphemus moth....although they look more orange in the field guide. They are 4&1/2".......However, I just read the the Cecropia moth has a ringed white abdomen, so I think it's a Cecropia. That's 5 &1/4".....

Male Cecropia moth, females are larger. Antennae are also plumose, females would be filiform.

He's staying on the patio under the benches during the miserable 100+ heat wave.

RobinD said:I have heard a few tree frogs, but haven't spotted them...saw an unusual frog/toad ?yesterday....looked like it had camouflage paint on it!

Was he sort of brown and pinkish? Could be a wood frog: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

I had one in the yard a couple of years ago and even saw a little one later on. Haven't seen any this year. It was such a cold winter that I'm surprised anything survived. Definitely hurt the snake population (not that I'm really complaining!)

Yes, it could have been a wood frog.....I've seen a few snakes this year.....a black racer, several northern water snakes, a few garters......nothing poisonous.

I took a 1 day course at the nature center on identifying dragonflies....they all look alike to me! I know some have spots, some don't...that's about it!

One large painted turtle on trail.....one poodle that went ballistic....I kept telling her it bit, because usually, it's snappers that we see, & I'd like her to stay away from them.......
