When did we start getting pop-up ads? I hadn't noticed them until recently, but they seem to be happening more often. They usually only appear when I open a thread in the "recent threads" drop-down menu.

We have no popup ads on the site. Some malware will place popup ads on your PC without it coming from the website you're visiting.

If you use Firefox, the adblock is pretty effective.

I'm getting them too, started today, on my iPad. The come up at the bottom and cover the lower part of the page. They're from some of the same advertisers as appear in the static ads at the side. On my iPod there are ads now in the middle of pages, I think that started today as well. If I remember rightly I also got a full page ad pop up on the iPod. Neither device is synced so this would be independently.

Thanks Dave. I thought they were new. I'm getting them on Macbook. The one I'm seeing right now has a lead-in on the link saying it's from googleads.g.doubleclick.net and the ad itself is from homeadvisor.com.

I just came back to this thread on the iPod. First there was an ad embedded between thread titles under Site Talk and then a pop up took over the whole screen and had to be closed so I could continue to this thread.

Edited to add I just got another ad between my system messages list that took up at least half the screen. It was one for a local hedge trimming service that I've seen before but as a regular ad not an obtrusive one. Now I had ads across the top and bottom of the screen when I tried to go to my homepage. One was scrolling. Tried to get there again and got this

Thumb of 2017-07-10/sooby/ea02cc

Then this with three ads across the page

Thumb of 2017-07-10/sooby/2ef333

Next try

Thumb of 2017-07-10/sooby/8dd2bb

The top one seems to stop the home button from working. I guess I'll give up trying to read NGA for now and come back later.

@dave, could a browser add-on be injecting ads into the page (seems unlikely with Safari on the iPad), or have the ads you've got changed behaviour?

It's not as obtrusive on the iPad as the iPod but I'm getting pop-ups at the bottom of most pages on it now:

Dave, I just opened your message. Here's what I found. Note the bottom of the page. This is the only one I've seen (Landscapers Near You).

That has always been there, actually.

Members who have a certain number of plants database contributions can turn ads off via their preferences. Everyone else can install an adblocking addon to get rid of them.
