Welcome!

Its a Buckeye seed. I'm not sure what kind you have in your area. The genus is Aesculus.

I agree, Aesculus (Buckeye) There are apparently two found in Canada:
Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum)

Ohio Buckeye (Aesculus glabra)

That is a little weird. They usually sprout pretty close to the tree as its hard for a seed that big to wander far. The only animal I know of that eats Buckeye seeds are squirrels.

We do have lots of squirrels around here, were in the city, I found 2 seeds like that last year in my yard, one had a white little sprout sticking out of a crack, the other nothing. I planted them but after a while they looked like they rotted, This time when I found the seed it had a white sprout also but I put it on top of the soil under my rhubarb instead of planting it and it seems to have planted its self, now only if I can keep it alive...lol

Hi & welcome!

Buckeyes get around when people from OH (the buckeye state!), and Ohio State fans, more specifically, cart them around nostalgically &/or give them to friends, family. I have a few that I picked up from under the trees around the stadium years ago and they are priceless to me!

Being from OH, this post sounded like someone asking, "why is this Ohioan here?" LOL! I had to remind myself it was about a sprout. So fun, thanks! :)
