I am from Northern Alabama; the pintos are planted in a well lit area. I am new to gardening everything is easy to tell if its ripe or not. I don't know what species of pintos it is. Ty for all your help.

You can harvest them as fresh beans as soon as the individual beans are plump and fill the pods. Or, you can wait until the pods are completely dry and harvest as dry beans. Your choice.
