Awhile back I order a package of seeds that were a mix of succulents and cacti (no specific species were given). After waiting months for any growth, I noticed two little ones today!!!

Made my day. Hurray!

They are all cactus but cactus, at this stage, look pretty much the same.

If any seeds looked visibly different in size and shape, that would be a big clue, for a few non-cactus succulents anyway.

For example: aloe and agave seeds are flat. Most aloe seeds have some kind of wings (little extensions around the seed itself that help it fly from the mother plant). Both aloes and agaves make way bigger seeds than your average barrel cactus. And you can tell aloes and agaves from cacti after they germinate because the cacti make two seed leaves (tiny as they are) as opposed to one seed leaf.

Opuntia and all their relaties do have two real seed leaves. Barrel cactus have two little ears. Yours are all barrel cactus at this point.

In this tray I planted some Rhipsalis pilocarpa seeds that I collected from the fruits of my plant. This is what is appearing..... Confused

I have no idea what the little guy in the bottom left corner is but he is something new. Beside it is a little sprout without any little ears, so I'm thinking that one is different too!

I'm not sure you have sprouted Rhipsalis quite yet. They should be a little prickly, not a little leafy. Smiling

I had Saguaro and Echinocactus or some other columnar seedlings that looked like this but they burnt up, there was purple in there, too.

Update: planted the thousand cacti seeds! Some already germinated after 3 days. They look like the golden barrel cactus babies I already have, but these have a peachy-pink hue!
