We started building this greenhouse last fall

At that point we decided to wait until spring to add the covering, as the weather was getting pretty cold here (in November).

This spring we added the 6-mil UV-protected greenhouse film and screen doors, moved the seedling benches in from my old (8x16) greenhouse, and planted tomato and pepper plants in the ground.

Thanks, Cheryl -- somewhat different from what i think of as the "typical greenhouse," more of a "high tunnel" for growing things in the ground (although i do have my seedling benches for early spring). Just can't seem to stop Green Grin!

Thanks, Sally! I'm so happy that my tomato plants are still healthy and going strong (they normally would have been completely dead from disease by now) and looking forward to seeing just how long they will continue producing this year Smiling

It is amazing. How much longer does this add to your growing season. Getting that plastic stretched over the building with no wrinkles seems like an impossible feat. The frames around the tomato plants are a great idea. You really know what you're doing.

Thank you, Laurie -- it's only taken me about 45 years of gardening to get to the point that I'm at (and it seems that the more I learn the more I realize how much I don't know...) Smiling

We made the wooden tomato cages some years back and they have been a huge improvement in tomato growing for me -- sturdy and easy to access the tomatoes (even ones that fall onto the ground). Getting the plastic covering over the framework of the GH was a little challenging -- it was just the 2 of us doing it and probably would have made quite a comical video; it isn't totally without wrinkles, but I think it did come out pretty darn good!

I'm not entirely sure yet just how much longer I'll be able to keep the tomatoes and peppers going at this end of the season, but I'm able to plant them a good month earlier (without providing any heat). I might be able to plant them even a little earlier next year because I'll have my seedlings in there starting around mid April and will be using my propane heater if the nighttime temps go below about 40. As soon as I win the lottery I'm planning to cover my entire garden with a greenhouse Hilarious!
