I've tried 'Lemon Sky' twice as shown above. The first one shrunk down and wouldn't grow and I gave up on it. The second was looking promising but seems to be fatally rotting I noticed just today. I've suspected for a while that this cultivar is not worth keeping despite its unique yellow coloration. Or maybe it's just me.
So I wonder... do you have one that's doing good? Growing and thriving from one year to the next? Or is this one just a weakling?

How is your 'Lemon Sky' ?

This is mine, but I cover in winter .

Seems as though most of the yellows are poor or slow growers.

Interesting. Two from WA are looking pretty good. Kudos to Patty and Julia. Yet in OR Lynn and I have 5 failures between us. And I think Bev too. I wonder if it can't take long hours of sunshine. I have mine a very sunny location as does Lynn. Mine got lots of water and even some of the magic elixir, and it rotted. I think Lynn's died from general failure to root and thrive, much like the demise of my previous specimen. I wonder if this is a Goldilocks plant. Not too much sunshine, not too little... not too much water, not too little. Requiring protection in both summer and winter.
Both of mine divided like crazy while the main rosette didn't grow much. I can see Patty's and Julia's are different in that respect. Perhaps that's a clue.

Mine can't seem to make it through summer sun. I do believe it is one that requires protection from any harsh conditions, summer or winter.
Even the European photos don't show a vigorous growing plant. Except maybe Horst's one photo showing a smaller colony.

Mine is in shade in the afternoon, which sounds like it probably helps.

If you can't grow 'Lemon Sky' then try 'Xanthoheuff'. Who needs 'Lemon Sky' anyway. This one's much better.
Thumb of 2017-07-20/tcstoehr/a7258a

They say three times is a charm... so despite my better judgement I'm trying 'Lemon Sky' one more time. I'm putting it where it will get some filtered shade in the hottest part of the day and also where the drainage is excellent. What could go wrong?

Yes, you are right Lynn! Let's see how long they last under my care...Better yet, I might send them off to the WA caretakers; it would give them a better chance for survival.

I'm too old to fuss over what Tim calls "Goldilocks" plants. I need the "Tried and True" semps but not if they are not appealing to me.

Lynn, you can find a better plant for your shrinking real estate, don't you think? or even a better yellow/lack of chlorophyll type of plant, but not one of those nugget plants.

My 'Gold Nugget' semps are doing really well in all this drought and warm weather. They are actually starting to produce offsets.
And yes, I do believe we have much better plants than 'Lemon Sky', plants that thrive and give lovely colors.
