My peach tree is loaded and the peaches have turned a lovely rosy color, some are falling off, but the ones on the tree are still hard to the touch. Wondering if it is too early to harvest them? I waited till they started to get soft last year and lost a lot of them.

Peaches are always picked when they are a little hard but have the right flavor and sugar content. Eat one and see what you think. They will soften and get juicier sitting on your counter for a day or two.

I always watch the birds - when they start eating the peaches, its time for me to start eating them too.

Thank you Daisy. I did indeed strip the tree. We've had a lot of rain and high winds, and I should have thinned them earlier on, my own fault. My kitchen table is now covered with bruised green peaches which I will process tonight. My little tree is very productive!
