Looking for help in figuring out what's wrong with our fothergilla. AKA Mt Airy. We live in the Northeast (PA, zone 7a) and have clay soil. The leaves have browned slowly since May and we didn't know if the issue was related to soil, being in shade, bugs or fungus/bacteria, or some other issue (or combo of issues).

We acidified the soil a bit in July but that hasn't helped. The clay soil is neutral.

I'm seeing all your utilities are close, and wondering about air conditioner blowing hot air on it, or possibly gas line leak. Either one could cause that.
