Lustrous near black. More old fashioned form. Certainly one of the darkest in the garden. Branching can sometimes crowd flowers.

My first blooms were yesterday. They opened late for me this morning, but it has been cooler in the morning.

The plant is an area that get periodic direct sun for short periods throughout the day and otherwise nice filtered sunlight. It really retained its color nicely both yesterday and today.

This is a very nice dark one. It holds its color pretty well. The form is old fashioned, but it does stand out in the garden. It is pod and pollen fertile.

I obtained two fans of Ashwood Dark Side from Petal Pusher Daylilies in September of 2022. I wanted a dark one to replace Night Wings, which never did well here.

I planted Ashwood Dark Side in a bed that gets filtered sunlight, hoping to minimize sun bleaching, and so far that strategy has worked. The blooms are lovely and dark, and they stay that way all day.

As for rust, I would characterize Ashwood Dark Side as moderately rust-resistant. It does get rust here now and then when conditions are perfect for rust, but it never gets overwhelmed.

The plant is slow to increase and has not bloomed prolifically. Maybe this will be the year Ashwood Dark Side takes off--I hope so.
