I have received a mother of thousands plant from my brother. He was growing seedlings which were not growing up, but like vines. I transplanted it and have it sitting on my porch. Since then it has now started to stand straight up, but it doesn't even look like pictures I've seen of these plants and I'm wondering what I could do to help it grow properly?

HI & welcome! Just give it as much sun as possible while it's warm outside, and put next to your most sunny window when it gets cold.

I've read that these plants can get sunburned. You're saying its OK to put it out in the sun?

Any plant can get burned if suddenly put where the light is much more intense. Generally, yes, they are a full sun plant. Acclimating your plant to those conditions could take a few weeks, at least.

I get babies that look like that while various potted plants are inside for winter, that have fallen into pots while they were next to mama plants while outside. To be technical, your plant did not come from a seed, but from one of the "millions/thousands" of babies that form on the edges of the leaves. The slightest disturbance can knock them off, where they take root & grow into new mama plants. Hence the common name "mother of thousands" or millions.

Yours looks like it's probably this kind, if you want to see pics of them growing in more sunny conditions, and the blooms.

OK, thank you. I just hope it grows into a huge plant! How long does it take them to reach maturity?

Most happy to share. ;) That depends on conditions, probably a couple years in your location, possibly 3. If it gets too tall & unable to stand up, you can chop it in half & stick the top back in. Both parts will keep growing, and bloom when they have matured and the timing is right, usually blooming over winter for those of us who must keep them in the captivity of a pot.
