Came home after a few days away and my plant sitter mentioned these little sesame seed-like things on my sunflowers. What are they?! Should I wipe them all off?

Looks like a white fly infestation :Spray plants with water to knock whiteflies off the leaves. ...
Combine 1 teaspoon of liquid detergent with 1 gallon of cool water. ...
Remove heavily infested leaves from the plant.

What kind of detergent do you recommend? Are these flies harmful to people? I had this plant in my kitchen window. I'm since moved it outside because I didn't want to have them next to my seedling tomatoes! I may have gotten a few flies up my nose.

I would think Dawn would be fine, no they are not harmful to people, just annoying like you have found out.

Okay, thanks! Will they kill my sunflowers? They were just about to bloom for the first time! What
