I'm in love with Sandy Nall's cultivars Lovey dubby
There are just a few that I can buy here in Europe, but I've been told they are quite tender..

I believe Sandy grows her plants in Louisiana, at Bayou Bend Daylily nursery.
Is that correct?

Louisiana, with it's sub-tropical climate, is a lot warmer than good old Netherlands...
We normally don't have véry cold winters and our summers aren't that hot either..
But still al lot different than the weather in Louisiana Whistling
Would Sandy's cultivars do ok here in my zone 9a?

I would love to hear from others that grow Sandy's plants and how they do in your garden Thumbs up

I think that Sandy actually lives in Arkansas. But Louisiana is in the same AHS region, both states make up AHS Region 13 and are adjacent although the climates are somewhat different. I don't know the circumstances, but think that they are friends and Josh sells and ships Sandys introductions for her. Also think I heard that Sandy had some health issues a couple of years ago.

Keeping an eye on this thread too, Mayo. Hoping to hear that they may do okay for us in Europe! 😊

Good morning!

Yes, I have three of Sandy's cultivars I think. I did two of those cultivars an injustice by planting them in an overcrowded space. I cannot, in good faith, critique them. My fault.

BELIEVE IN DESIGN is an absolute winner, however. Extremely hardy, robust, fertile with a beautiful face. It is one of my top three patterned dips in the yard.

We have grown three of Sandy Nall's introductions for maybe four years. We are zone 7 (NW GA, USA), and all three have done well for us. Wish we grew more.

You can only get ones that are already in Europe though, unless the ban on imports because of Xylella fastidiosa has been lifted?

Apparently there is one area that is xyella free and can ship to Europe with the appropriate phyto certificate. He is a Northern grower who grows everything in pots and his plants are reputedly very hardy. Hurray! Hurray!

Have only just found out about it so no good for me at the moment as the minimum order is around $250- plus certificate and carriage and I don't have enough space to do that .

Hope for the future though if we move house to a bigger garden.

Yes, Rich Howard. My avatar is one of his, 'Pawprints on my Heart', and it's definitely hardy here in USDA Zone 4.

Thanks @Sooby, Thank You!

Wasn't sure what the rules were on mentioning specific people so thought I had better not put his name on here in case it was in breach of guidelines.

Is it the same person who sells seeds on Lily Auction under the name Rich?

The plant in your avatar is lovely

Thanks, it is a lovely daylily. Someone else will have to answer the Lily Auction question because I don't go there. I believe he does sell seeds on the Lily Auction so it could be.
