I'm sure hoping that's a containment line. I'm confused, though, because I thought I read somewhere this morning that one of their objectives was to keep the fire west of Hwy 140, but that (unfilled in) red line clearly crosses it. Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom |

Looking at the link to the map you posted Marilyn, it has crossed 140. I think they are trying to contain it at 140 West of Mariposa.. This is a fear we live with daily... Everytime someone in the neighborhood has a Barbeque, I start checking the skies for smoke ... The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us. |

Yes, that's what I thought (that it had crossed 140). Current structures lost in the fire... 50. ![]() You are in much more in danger of fire than we are, though we have our concerns too. One time a grass fire started on the hill across the street from us, and it took the fire department something like 15-20 minutes to show up... This was on a windy day way back when we were landscaping, and our landscaping crew had to put it out, before it got into the row of Eucalyptus trees next door to us. If those had caught, our house would have been next. Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom |

My husband nixed putting in any eucalyptus 30 years ago because they are oily and susceptible to fire - more so than other trees. We are next door to Lake County, and they had fire problems last year. We do what we can to stay fire safe. Life is a Gift ! |

My uncle used to be a forest ranger. He hated forest fires, and really taught me a lot as to how to keep your property safe from forest fires. No forests near me now though, and it's so wet now it would take the devil himself to start a fire here. I sure hope they get some relief soon and get that fire over with. Such destruction is so frightening. Voltaire: "Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities," |

It would burn here too easily right now. Even with the rain we had, at 99 degrees and a stretch of no rain, everything is crispy. Hope everyone is careful with their grilling this weekend. Today's incident map shows burn area to the north and east of Catheys Valley... http://google.org/crisismap/go... So long as the fire doesn't start moving south and west, Superstition Gardens should be okay. (Ashy, but okay.) But my guess is that they are evacuated. The good news, I suppose, is that the evacuation order has been lifted on Mariposa. http://www.latimes.com/local/l... If I were a resident, I'd be grateful... but on the other hand, with a raging fire that close, I'd still be pretty nervous, too! Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom |

We were in CA last year and I so wanted to drive down Big Sur. We didn't get to because of wildfires in sections along the road. We did go to Yosemite. It is just beautiful country! I would go back in a heartbeat. Not for the big cities but the countryside and beaches. I hope the gardens will survive. It is very dry here today in southcentral KY. We also hit 100. Well, we drove by one bank that said 104 just staggering heat and humidity today. No relief in sight either ![]() Bee Kind, make the world a better place. |

They moved the command post for the fire to Merced on Wednesday (we live about 10 miles away). Today there was an accident with a Firetruck near Mt. Bullion. They had a press conference this afternoon. I don't know the details but it will probably be on the news tonight. So far 58 homes have been destroyed. See the facebook page for the most up to date info. The map has not been updated since yesterday but the black outlines are the area of containment, the red are (or were) not under control yet. Facebook Page for latest info:https://www.facebook.com/CALFIREMMU/ Latest update with evacuations: http://www.fire.ca.gov/current... Latest Map: http://cdfdata.fire.ca.gov/pub... My nephew who is a firefighter will be reporting to Merced on Monday to start his new job with the Merced Mariposa Cal-Fire Unit. What a way to start! Yikes!!! As so many of you have said, my prayers go out to the evacuees and the firefighters, and especially to those who have lost their homes. |

Per their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/super... , Superstition Gardens was out of power for the last 6 days, and apparently sheltering in place. The road was blocked maybe 200 ft from their gate, and the fire (at its closest) came to about 2 miles from them. They have power back and are busy now (my guess is, restocking their fridge - all of their food spoiled - and otherwise recovering from the power outage). The fire is at 40% containment now. http://www.kcra.com/article/mo... Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom |

So glad to hear that they are safe and that the fire is getting under control. The food is replaceable. Voltaire: "Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities," |

Their power went back out said a message I got, but I think is now restored. No power for them also meant no water so I am sure they are happy to be able to water again. I just got a shipping notification so they are back to sending out boxes!
