Hi, my grandmother gave me a desk lamp that has both warm and cool leds, I was wondering if this can be used as a supplement to the sun in some of the darker hours. Look at how the picture below. Do you think I would be wasting my time? Or do you think it would actually work?

Also, if this doesnt work for some reason, I have another fixture that is really bright. All I would need is a recommendation for a bulb to put in it. Big Grin

You could probably use that lamp for raising seedlings if you had the plants within a couple of inches of the light. But for a larger plant it's not going to be enough. Even a north-facing window will give more useable light for a plant.

It depends on the intensity (wattage) of the LED's and whether or not they are color corrected for plants. Red and blue portions of the spectrum are appropriate for plants. Standard warm and cool white fluorescent tubes provide good light for plant growth. Incandescent and halogen lights do not provide light in the appropriate color range and they generate too much heat.
