My cherry tomato plant has been thriving but today I noticed something strange. The stem, right at the base has a chunk missing. What could be causing this?

Hmm, cutworms can make that kind of damage but not usually on such a mature stem. They like their stems to be more young and tender. You might try venturing out after dark with a flashlight and see if you can see anything lurking around that stem.

I just noticed that you are in Hawaii, so another thought - might be one of those big snails. See any slimy trails?

No slimy trails. I think it is a rodent problem
