Let the buyer beware of any seed online from independant sellers. There seems to be either plenty of outright fraud, or simply that people love the thrill of trying to grow something exotic from seed for a few bucks- which seed fails to grow what they want because it's just not easy. ( Basing this on plant identification questions- A lot of people seem to buy seed for Venus Flytrap..)
And there are some outlandish offerings out there

What cracks me up is that one of the pictures on the jackseeds page is actually a lily-of-the-valley photoshopped with different colored flowers.......
And no reviews on either, which is a huge red flag for me!!

There are plenty of good, decent, honest independent seed sellers out there.

It is not that we should shy away from buying seeds online from independent sellers, but rather we should use our best judgment and not order something that looks too unbelievable to be true.

But I can see, if you really have zero experience with gardening, some things that are real can seem outlandish. Purple potatoes. Gazania flowers. Ten foot tall sunflowers.
Hey, Dream Sally peppers!

I buy purple potatoes at the grocery store, the gazanias and Dream Sally peppers looked normal to me.

It's odd how most look completely normal and then they have the obvious photoshopped ones, discrediting themselves.

There are a number of eBay listings for "blue" Lilium seeds that I just don't understand how the seller expects to get away with it. Usually the image is very obviously photoshopped (apart from the fact that there is no such thing as a blue Lilium - they lack the ability to produce the pigment!) and if there is a photo of seeds, they're not even Lilium seeds! It reminds me of explanations I've heard for why spam emails are often so badly written - the scammers want to filter out everyone except the most oblivious or gullible.

When I saw the picture of the rainbow tomato I chuckled, but when I saw the square watermelon, I busted out laughing.

I've actually seen a documentary segment explaining how that is done (the cubic watermelons). They have to be carefully shaped whilst growing to get that effect, but apparently it's quite popular!

Yes, I suppose if you place them into a container while growing they would take that shape. Smiling

I remember seeing little molds for sale in some of the seed catalogs (some years ago) that were intended to make cucumbers grow with a "face," if you can picture that...

LOL, found this with a quick Google search ("Plastic Face Forms for Garden Vegetables"): https://www.farmshow.com/a_art...

I have seen the plastic forms to be placed on a pear and as the pear grows it will take on the shape of a baby Buddha.

I was thinking of using the heart-shape molds for my cucumbers, then selling seeds for them... Whistling Whistling
