Perhaps this is a mislabeled plant. Please compare to photo's at Hosta Library. http://www.hostalibrary.org/s/... which shows more lanceolate leaves.

That Hosta Library site lists two with similar names; 'Shining Tot' and (one I don't see in our database) 'Shiny Tot'. I know nothing about Hosta but I wonder if it could be the latter?

I can't enlarge the photo enough to read the plant marker. Can either of you do that?
Both 'Shiny Tot' and 'Shining Tot' are miniature hostas. The above photo looks to be a quite large hosta. And the leaf shape is totally different from the known 'Shiny Tot' and 'Shining Tot'.

What fun working together to solve a mystery.

When I enlarge it the marker is too pixelated to read.

It looks like Shining Tot when I enlarge it.

This plant is not one of mine, but rather is in the Montreal Botanical Garden, which is an AHS designated display garden. They could have made a mistake, but I would have thought it rather unlikely. At any rate, the original, higher-definition photo, if I still have it, is on my older computer. I keep the original, unedited photos only so long. I'm heavily involved with the Ottawa Chamberfest at this time, but when I have a chance, I'll look on that older computer to see if I still have it so that we can read the sign more clearly.

In the library there is one called Shining Spot,it has the larger leaves, maybe the label maker just messed up the label, or the placement.
Went from the premise that Shining was prob correct than what could be close(sounds like) to Tot, or something like it.

Thanks for the name Rj. Size looks like it might be comparable, but the leaf color doesn't look the same.

Thank you Ann for your time. And that really is a lovely photo.

I don't appear to have kept the original hi-def photos but on the version on my computer it certainly looks as though the name says 'Shining Tot' when I zoom in on it. It's pixellated (but not as badly as the image here) but I can certainly make out the general shape of the letters.
