Hell-o! Thanks so much for taking the time to read this;

I have bought a beautiful crape myrt bush it is in a 10 gallon pot. I'd like to place it in my moms little garden joined to her tea house, God rest her soul. Anyway I'd like to know if I could control its growth planting it in a pot or would it just become root bound.

Agian that you for your time

Welcome!

You can control a plants growth but it takes pruning on both ends of the plant. Every couple years, you will have to remove it from the pot, give the roots a good haircut and repot (in the same pot) with new soil. Keep the top under control by pruning every winter.

I agree, cutting both the top growth and the roots is what Bonsai is all about. Take some time to research, check online (lots of YouTube videos), read a few books and you will be able to keep the plant at a manageable size that would look perfect in or near the teahouse. Your mom would approve! Lovey dubby

Crape myrtle is a wonderful specimen for bonsai, having naturally smaller foliage. Best luck!
