Hi,

I have been trying to get Little Surfer Girl daylily but without any success and with the daylily import ban to Europe it is very unlikely that I will ever be able to get this daylily.

Does anyone have any seeds from Little Surfer Girl crosses--ideally crossed with a patterned small/mini variety but I will happily accept any cross between Little Surfer Girl and anything else- that they would be willing to let me have? I have checked and it is okay to import daylily seed to the UK.

I would really appreciate it if anyone has any to spare. Thank You! Thank You!

@Mayo

Yes, I'm watching that one at the moment but there are several people bidding and 13 watching and still three days to go so I don't expect I'll be lucky enough to get them.😞

Thank you, though, Mayo. I was hoping to be able to get it from Gerald but he says it will be a very long time before it is big enough for dividing again as it is a very slow grower for him.

Can you not get pollen from Gerald and use it to cross with something you have?

It never occurred to me to ask, Sue. D'Oh!

It would have to come from Germany to the UK, though. Would it still be usable by the time it got here?

Edited--just thinking it might be better to ask him next spring as my mini dips are pretty much finished here. Could ask him to freeze some for me or see if he is willing to put it onto something for me and sell me the seeds when they are ready.

People do send pollen by mail in North America so I would assume it could work. All you have to lose (or rather Gerald does) is the cost of mailing. If it is in flower now maybe he could send it and you could freeze it. I've never exchanged pollen or frozen it but maybe someone who has can comment on feasibility.

If you collect fresh pollen in a matchbox and put it in the mail it should be good for 4 days. Some probably would be good longer. I think I could collect pollen and send it anywhere in the US that could get it within 3 or 4 days and it would be good to use or freeze. One thing of note is that I think the pollen from miniatures is a little more difficult because of the amount of pollen. Most small flowers have a small amount of pollen. Lots of good fluffy pollen will send and last better.
Last year Little Surfer Girl was one of my most used pollen parents. I planted hundreds of Surfer Girl seedlings but it has been so very dry that I think we are loosing too many of the seedlings planted this spring. This year I did not get as many flowers on L. Surfer Girl. I have some seeds this year but not that many.
I have a few seeds from this cross but I think only 5 or 6.

I have other small and mini seeds that I like just as well.

Lovely!!!

Afraid the seeds on Lily Auction eluded me! Sighing!

Edited--just heard back from Gerald, Little Surfer Girl just about dead there 😞. Said was very weak plant for him.
