Can someone please tell me what this vine is?
We've had it ~12yrs, and it has grown over 10ft to cover
another tree, though its trunk is only ~3/4" in diameter.
Thanks! Smiling
BTW, what is the best image size to post? (dimensions and kb)

Bauhinia Yunnanensis - Climbing Orchid Vine. So pretty and so much better than Boston Ivy. Smiling

Thank You! Daisy!
I didn't know what Bauhinias were until I joined NGA a few days ago.
The leaves and flower on the vine looked similar, but didn't connect the dots.
I'm amazed it can support that much growth with so little cambium.

But it appears to be happy even though it's competing with a wisteria for root space and light.
They play well together. Smiling

Today I bought 2 X 5gal Bauhinia X blakeana...'Hong Kong Orchid Tree' ....one to bonsai
for the deck hummers, and one for the back yard garden to let it get BIG. Thumbs up

I found a pdf about it that says it can be propagated by air layering & cuttings.....I plan to do
both, and have a small forest of them......they're fast growers. Smiling

I am very jealous - Bauhinia are my 'wish I could have one in my yard' tree. And you are going to have a forest!! Lovey dubby They come in different shades so you may want to find another in a darker or lighter color to add some variety to your forest. You have to buy them when they are blooming.

BTW: Thank you for the acorns. A gesture very much appreciated but also very unnecessary. I love what I do and love that I can help people. Thank You!

EscondidoCal, That is a gorgeous vine! Lovey dubby I hope you will consider uploading a couple of photos to our database; we currently don't have any bloom or seed pod photos! Yunnan Bauhinia (Bauhinia yunnanensis)

Daisy,
how cold does it get at your place in Reno?
Have you tried growing one in a pot?
If I get one to root, I'd be glad to send it to
you....you could bring it in on cold nights. (?)
I think it will make a great bonsai. Smiling

Sorry! I was talking about the B.blakeana......please see
the other thread I started about "Bauhinias!!!" in the
tropical forum. I probably won't be propagating the vine....slow grower.

BUT let me know if you want seed pods of B. yunnanensis, and I'll send them to you.

I'll have to be more careful not to go off on tangents! =O

plantladylin,
I just submitted the 2 pics. We'll see if they fly. Smiling

EscondidoCal, Thank you for the offer but it is way too cold here and my indoor space is way to cramped. I will just have to live vicariously through all the beautiful photos everyone posts. Smiling
