|These dianthus look hidebound to me. Thoughts? Maybe started in a peat pellet, graduated to a 4-pack to sell quickly. Healthy? Beats me.

|The only way to save them is to tear the rootball almost to the soil surface (start at the bottm and pull them apart - don't damage the plant) into quarters and plant on a little mound of soil in your planting hole (visualize miniature bundt pan). Otherwise, they will never claw their way out of that mass of roots.
