These are my favorites and I have always said when xanax fails, buy Jasmine. It is so soothing and calming when blooming. (At least to me it is). The amazing thing about these plants is that each plant has a different bloom. Different number of little petals on flower. I am totally committed to this plant as a container plant as well as garden in zones permitted. They tend to overtake if not trimmed, but the results are amazing and worth the effort.

I love them, too, JB, but my husband objects to the scent so I don't have any now. His mom had her yard full of them, and it was pretty overpowering.

In the hospital where I work we use lavender fragrance to soothe and calm. Some scents do have that effect. Not effective for everyone though.

That is so sad. Too bad because it is such a little thing but if it brings bad memories I guess you have to accept it. Men!

He is an astronomer, and he was always outside at night in the yard with his telescope. That smell became something he hated. Now it's all strong scents. I had freesia in the house one winter, and those had to go too. :(

Actually it works out because our daughter has asthma and it's worsened by strong scents. We don't use scented perfumes or candles when she'll be around.

That makes sense. Nothing worse than strong scents if you have a problem. As for your husband, as much as I love men and I have had a few husbands, I do think sometimes they need to give a little. Rolling on the floor laughing As I get older I get even more annoyed. If my son , a stuffy attorney like his father, makes any comments when he visits, he gets a very snippy answer from me. He used to hate my one Jack Russell dogs and I told him the dog lives here too. Get used to him. I am just a miserable old lady at times.
Seriously, you are a wise woman. Peace and quiet are more fun.

Sorry, Jasmine (all of them) have a scent I just can't stand. For me it is completely overpowering but I am very sensitive to all sorts of scents. Walking down the detergent aisle in the grocery store is torture for me. There are some strong scented flowers that do not bother me, like gardenias, so I suspect it is one of the chemicals that make up the scent in Jasmines that is the culprit.

Karen ~ understandable with your husband as blooming scents are usually stronger at night. I only have the Confederate jasmine outdoors and for one glorious month in springtime I savor the fragrance.

JB ~ "get used to it or get over it" works for me. Rolling on the floor laughing After all, it is still your life! Beautiful bloomers you have... Lovey dubby
Be content moving inch by inch because, by days end, the inches, will add up to feet and yards.

Fulfilling ambitious objectives is usually done one step at a time.

JB. secretly I'm like you and would love to say it out loud. I'm getting better at it as I age! I just need a few more years before my filters are gone. Rolling on the floor laughing

I'm reading all of the responses as to who likes/dislikes the scent. I can't weigh in since I have no sense of smell so I'll tell you that they are beautiful and I'll imagine that they smell divine. Thumbs up

They truly are beautiful, wish I could enjoy the scent.

Hey Gayle, I used to live in Salisbury, way back in the 70's.

Alice, it has changed quite a bit. I don't know if you remember Mill Street off of rt. 50 (by the Wicomico River) but they are planning on putting a TRAFFIC CIRCLE in to cover that small area that is congested with Mill St., Riverside Dr. and Carroll St. coming together. I can't wait... Thumbs down

The new slogan is "Salisbury Rising." Sounds like we're baking bread. Rolling on the floor laughing

I have friends who live in Myrtle Beach. It's beautiful down there (and warm).

LOL yes, we drove through last summer and were stunned by the growth. Salisbury was a sleepy little city when we lived there, it is hard to think of them needing a traffic circle. I do remember well that intersection.

We had the best crab cakes we have ever eaten at that place on Snow HIll Rd. across from Holly Center. YUM.

There used to be many greenhouses out in the country where farm wives would supplement their incomes by growing and selling plants. You could get the best quality plants for little $.

Alice, our little rural area here has a Farmer's Market that is the same. I can find great plants and fruits and veggies that our stores don't stock. We'll be heading out early tomorrow.
