|When planting rhubarb, the instructions say not to harvest the first year. When I divide my plants, am I supposed to wait a year before harvesting?

|I grow rhubarb from seed. I live in SE-OH (zone 6-A). Here is my experience.
Seedling year: you will have in your pot what looks ever so much like a small carrot by dormancy.
Year one: the carrot size increases. Stalks are still too small to harvest.
Year two: Stalks can be lightly harvested.
Year five: there are now more than one set of erupting stalks. There is now enough mass in the ground to divide in the spring.
You may be able to forshorten this growing horizon if you are starting from a divided mature root.
