I just got my Sutton order and really excited to see how they do this year. Included was mango meltdown as a bonus. After checking out the photo, I'm upset about 2 things:
Thanks a lot Sutton family for making it impossible for me to give away the bonus rhizome to our local Iris society because the bloom looks so beautiful causing me to go into 'selfish mode'.
Worse of all, it makes me really upset that I was foolish/ stupid enough to tell them to 'Not' send a bonus last year. A painful lesson for a hopelessly addicted Iris grower!
Blessings and best wishes to everyone, and can't wait until spring '18!

I have found that some of the bonus iris I have gotten over the years turn out to be some of my favorites. Hope yours brings lots of joy!

I haven't gotten my box from Sutton yet, now I'm going to be disappointed if I don't get Mango Meltdown, too! That one is pretty and supposed to be a late bloomer, perfect!

I agree. In about 1992 I ordered my first irises, which included Dusky Challenger, Skating Party, Jesse's Song, Wabash, Beverly Sills, and possibly Winter Olympics. The supplier included a ruffled lavender freeby, which I didn't even bother labeling, because I figured it would be less than desirable. All the ones in the original order have since died, some after many, many years, when I was too ill to give them needed attention. But the freeby bonus plant is the one that has survived and florished, and it has been absolutely gorgeous and reliable every year without fail. And wonderfully fragrant. I think I have finally identified it as being "Bubbling Over," and it's a definite winner! I will never again underestimate a freeby.

received my sutton order on 9/8/17; haven't gotten to them yet. their roots are soaking in a shallow dish of water until tomorrow, when i'll pot them up.

i think i've listed them in i've got a box 2017. my bonuses were: 'carpe diem', 'grand bargain' , and 'social blush'

. .

my big excuse for not getting my planting done :

i was helping at our local iris club's annual fall sale this weekend. (the bromeliad, and the succulent and cactus societies were having their sales there at the same time.) but, i was busy answering questions, replenishing stock on the tables, and other activities, that i didn't have time to check the other plants out. that may have been a good thing, or i may have come home with more than three plants.

two of them were 'blackbird landing'.
