This was my dad's Uncle Leo. My second cousin (his granddaughter) sent this to me. I didn't know he was still around when I was a young adult until it was too late. He's the little boy in the middle of the family pic c. 1896-7. My grandfather (Leo's brother) is holding the scythe.

My paternal grandad was like that to me. Taught me organic gardening. My dad was totally Ortho. I liked Grandads veggies a lot more than dad's. I think I made grandad happy.

Grandparent's had the knowledge from their own experiences. That's wisdom !
It touched my heart to see the photos of your grandad.
My grandma spent hours on her rose bushes. (I don't have any photos ) I remember as a child that people would drive to our summer place to view her garden.
She also loved cleaning fish, trout, salmon etc.. I bet she used the fish as fertilizer in her garden. I do have one photo.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Browsing around looking at my old threads. One tid-bit about that old family photo is I had a cousin that looked exactly like my great-grandfather in the pic. In fact, when I first saw this picture, I asked my second cousin why cousin Richard was in the picture. He was older than I was and when I was little I remember cousin Richard looked exactly like that, beard and all.
