My niece lives in Iowa and loves this plant but doesn't have any idea as to what it is. I'm thinking maybe it's some kind of lily, Can anyone identify this beauty? She says the bloom is only about 1.5" and the plant is tucked in amongst ferns and seems to come up every year, and she has questions about seeds, etc., like whether those are seed pods underneath the dead flower spirals, should she stratify any seeds she gets, and on and on...

Thank you for any help you can give us.

Iris domestica Blackberry lily

Species Iris (Iris domestica)
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

Thanks so much! And after looking at the pictures I can certainly see why another common name for it is Blackberry Lily! Hilarious!

Blackberry lily is easily grown from seed. Let the green pods dry - they'll turn brown - and then collect the seed.
