My five foot Japanese Maple Tree died. It had been growing for six years. It had beautiful red leaves in the fall. What caused this?

I lost a mature one this past winter. From talking with the local Master Gardener the drought that we had experienced the last few years coupled with a late deep frost this spring did it in. Sad.
