Hi, guys. I have an Amazon parrot that's been tearing apart and even eating some of this plant that my mom's been buying. The bird destroyed 5 of these and I need to know what it is to see if it might be toxic. She buys these at a fruit/vegetable store. The owner doesn't know the plant's name.

It looks like a Mesembryanthemum (e.g. Mezoo Trailing Red) aka Dorotheanthus

If it were toxic, your bird would have been dead at plant #1.

I have read somewhere 'Mezoo Trailing Red' is a variegated version of Aptenia 'Red Apple' (which is Aptenia cordifolia (syn Mesembryanthemum cordifolium ) and A. haeckeliana). Well aptenia is one of the edible member of mesembs (although I don't like the taste), so I think your parrot will be just fine, perhaps it just regard that as salad.

Aptenia cordifolia is the synonym for Mesembryanthemum cordifolium.
