Hello,

can you please tell me where i can find the Viva Italia tomato seeds... i have been using them for years and the supplier no longer carries them.
I ordered the viva italia seeds from another supplier but they are not the same, i am very disappointed they turned out to be the regular Roma.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Anna

Welcome to NGA, Anna ( @amcaruso )

I've been getting my Viva Italia seeds from Totally Tomatoes for years, but I just checked and their website isn't showing them... Blinking

Burpee seems to have them for sale ( http://www.burpee.com/vegetabl... ) and I think I'm going to order a couple of packs sooner rather than later!

@NewYorkRita -- where have you been getting your seeds for Viva Italia?

Viva Italia is a Seminis product introduced in 1991. It is no longer listed on their website so it has probably been discontinued.

I never got seeds. I used to buy them as plants but haven't grown them the past two years.

Oh no, I hate when that happens and a favorite variety disappears.

Viva Italia is definitely one of my favorites -- and, in fact, my first ripe tomato of the season is a Viva!

This is not good news! Viva Italia is my favorite for making sauce. Is Burpee the only place that is selling it? I'll be looking around...

I agree, Connie -- definitely a fave of mine! I didn't go very far in the Google search, Reimer's might also have it. Burpee's does have a "buy 3 packs get 1 free" deal right now, as well as free shipping on 4 or more seed packets. I bought 4 packs of 30 seeds each, LOL.

I'm really glad you asked about them, Anna -- usually when a favorite turns out to be discontinued it's too late to even stock up, because no one has it anymore. Viva is definitely a favorite of mine... now I'm wondering what will be considered its "replacement."

I checked my "stash" and found almost 10 years worth of Viva seeds so I guess it doesn't make much sense to stock up seeds I won't use until the oldest are used up.

Santa Lucia is one that seems to be off the market now. I have a friend who loves it so every year I start one plant for him. I am down to 7 seeds now. I keep warning him this will all come to an end eventually.

My vegetable seeds are double packed in zip lock bags and stored in the refrigerator.

Here is my tip that was published here a few years ago.

Excellent tip about writing the number of seeds. I never thought of doing that.

I inventory the seed numbers only when they get low, of course.
